American flag stolen and another damaged in Viroqua

VIROQUA, Wis. (WEAU) -- An area community is asking for your help to find the person or people responsible for stealing an American flag, and damaging another.

Viroqua Assistant Police Chief Todd Simonson said they found out about the flags on June 28.

He also says there was rash of graffitti that week with an upside down American flag and the words, "Rome Fell," stenciled on buildings and parking ramps around viroqua, particularly the downtown area.

The Viroqua VFW is offering a reward for anyone who has information about the flags.

The VFW’s manager said it’s about paying tribute to those who have served or are currently serving.

Right now the reward is more than $1,000.

“We want to honor them, and we just want people to understand what the flag really means, you know it’s not just something you hang up,” said VFW Manager Lucas Nordin.

If you have any information, call the Viroqua Police Department or Vernon County Crime Stoppers.
