Americans spending more than ever on school supplies

From binders to backpacks, Americans are spending more than ever on back to school supplies.

A survey by Huntington Bank finds supplies for a middle school student this year average about $312. That's up about $100 from last year.

Meanwhile, outfitting a high schooler will run you an average of $350, about $20 more than last year.

The group says as school budgets tighten, students are being asked to buy more supplies to make up the difference in the classroom.
