CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wis. (WEAU) -- An area elementary school has been collecting goodies and money all October, just to give it all away to the end of the month.
Halmstad elementary school in Chippewa Falls dedicated October as community service month.
They decided to help raise money and supplies for the humane society.
Wade Pilloud, the principal of Halmstad elementary says even if kids couldn't bring any supplies in, they had a special day dedicated to just raising money.
"One day we actually has a student council sponsored day where students could bring in a dollar to donate, then they would get a stuffed animal to carry around, allowing them to help tie into it."
He says its important to teach kids the importance of giving back to the community, and says on that day alone, the school raised $228.
