Augusta man admits to injuring girlfriend's 4-year-old son

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- A 4-year-old boy ended up with broken ribs and bruises, and now his mother and her boyfriend are facing charges.

Prosecutors filed criminal charges against Brian Peck Jr., 31, of Augusta and Katie Boyea, 32, of Augusta on Thursday. A criminal complaint says the boy's babysitter said in June that he was throwing up, and had bruises and other injuries. It also said the child ended up with nine broken ribs. Peck initially told investigators the injuries were an accident, but later confessed to squeezing the boy and throwing him against a couch several times at Boyea's home.

Boyea is accused of not preventing her son's injuries. The complaint said that Boyea told both the babysitter and her family she did not want to take him to the doctor because the doctor would see her son's bruises. She denied that to investigators, adding that she felt that parents take their children to the doctor way too often and don't let them build up immunity. Boyea is due in court later this month, and Peck is scheduled to appear in court next month.
