NEW INFORMATION: Fire appears electrical in nature, causes nearly $100,000 in damage

Township Fire Department news release:

Neighbor reported that there was smoke coming from the residence. First on scene units reported heavy smoke coming from the front and side of the residence. Home was searched for occupants and later confirmed that no one was home at the time of the fire. Fire was contained to the upper floor area which sustained heavy heat and fire damage. Township Fire Department was assisted with equipment and manpower from the City of Eau Claire Fire Department. Altoona Fire department also provided additional equipment and manpower. Eau Claire County Sheriffs' Department and the Town of Washington provided traffic control. Fire was declared under control after approximately 40 minutes from the time of the call. There were pets near the house but were unharmed. Red Cross has been requested to assist the homeowner.

Probable Cause: Electrical, non holiday item related.

TOWN OF WASHINGTON, Wis. (WEAU) - Fire crews tackled a fire near Eau Claire Tuesday afternoon.

It happened at a house on McElroy Street just before 1 p.m. Firefighters responded after a neighbor reported seeing smoke coming from the home.

Nobody was home at the time of the fire.

Fire crews got to the home on McElroy Street just before 1 p.m. Tuesday. There's no word on damage or whether anyone was hurt.
