NEW INFORMATION: Hit-and-run case forwarded to district attorney

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) – Eau Claire police say their investigation into a hit-and-run incident last month is finished, and is now in the hands of the district attorney.

A police spokesman made the announcement Thursday morning, saying he'll let us know when a charging decision is made. The department says it will not release any more information, including the subject's name, until a charging decision is made.

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) – Police say they have identified the driver and car involved in a hit and run that severely injured a man.

The Eau Claire Police Department says an investigation led to identifying both the driver and the car, but it is not releasing any more information at this time. It says it is not releasing more information because it could jeopardize the investigation, as crews are continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Officers say Zach Kerska, 23, Eau Claire was hit by a driver who then took off. He was taken to the hospital by ambulance, has severe head injuries and is in a coma.

The department is thanking the people in Eau Claire who gave information that helped in the investigation.

UPDATE: Police are still looking for a driver responsible for a hit and run in Eau Claire.

Officers say Zachary Kerska, 23, Eau Claire was hit by a driver who then took off. He was taken to the hospital by ambulance and has severe head injuries.

Officers haven't released the vehicle description at this point but they believe the vehicle has damage to the right side.

The investigation is ongoing.

UPDATE: Officers say a driver hit a pedestrian and took off. The pedestrian was taken by ambulance. Officers say the person hit on the road has head injuries. They say he's a 23-year-old man. His name has not been released.

Officers haven't released the vehicle description at this point, because they don't have a specific description available as of 10:30 p.m. Friday night.

Police brought their evidence van to the scene and planned on spending hours there.

police have taped off the road near Ravencrest and Seymour Road in Eau Claire.

That part of the road is blocked to traffic. We are trying to get confirmation on the situation before releasing any details. We do have a crew on the scene and saw one person taken in an ambulance.
