Man arrested after high speed chase through Eau Claire Co.

EAU CLAIRE, Wis The Eau Claire Co. Sheriff's Dept. has released the name of the suspect that led deputies on a high speed chase.

Sgt. Cory Schalinske said 27-year-old Kyle J. Smith of Durand was taken into custody after refusing to pull over and attempting to elude a deputy.

Smith is being held in the Eau Claire Co. Jail on the following pending charges:
• Knowingly Flee an Officer
• Operating while under the influence 1st Offense
• Operating while revoked driving status
• Arrest Warrants (2)

A man is in custody after leading police on a high speed chase. The Eau Claire County Sheriff's Department says the chase started on US Highway 10 in Fairchild just after 9:00pm Saturday night. A deputy tried to pull a car over or for a traffic violation but the driver fled.

The chase ended shortly before 9:30 Saturday night in Augusta. Deputies say a man was arrested but his name is not being released at this time.

Sergeant Cory Schalinske says the suspect has multiple warrants including a felony with the Department of Corrections.

No one was hurt in the incident. Deputies say the investigation is ongoing. The man is expected to be charged with an OWI and Operating a Motor Vehicle With Out Owners Consent
