EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) – Deputies have released the name of the driver of a van involved in a seven-car wreck on Clairemont Avenue Friday night.

The Eau Claire County Sheriff's Department says Travis Hazelton, 35, of Eau Claire has been ticketed for homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle in the crash. He’s expected to be arrested once he's out of the hospital. He is not charged in the crash. There's no word on how severe his injuries are.

Sergeant John Staber says the driver of a seventh car in the pileup drove away from the scene after crews got there. Deputies later talked to that driver, but she wasn't ticketed.

Investigators say it will likely take several weeks until they figure out how fast the van was going when the crash happened. Five people went to the hospital with injuries, including Jesse Schreiner, 26, who died in the crash. He was riding with Hazelton in the van.

There's no word on the condition of the others who were hurt.

Hazelton has faced several criminal charges during the past few years. He was sentenced to jail three years ago for making counterfeit money. Court records show that he was sentenced to jail again in April 2011 after third-offense Operating While Intoxicated the previous summer. Investigators say he drove a truck that knocked down a street sign and a light pole.

Eau Claire County Sheriff Ron Cramer says he suspects alcohol was a factor in Friday's crash.
