Police identify bicyclist, driver in deadly crash

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) – Eau Claire Police have identified the people involved in a crash that killed a man on a bicycle Friday.

Kirk Cartwright, 51, of Eau Claire was riding the bicycle. He died at the hospital.

Officers say Archie Vanwormer, 90, of Eau Claire was driving the SUV that was involved in the crash. He was taken to the hospital after the crash for evaluation. He was also referred to the state Department of Transportation for a review of his license status.

The Eau Claire Police Department’s reconstruction team is following up on the crash.

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) – Police say a 51-year-old man has died Friday after he was hit by a vehicle while biking next to Clairemont Avenue in Eau Claire.

Eau Claire Police say the crash happened around 12:40 p.m. Friday afternoon in the 1100 block of W. Clairemont Avenue. It says a westbound vehicle left the road at the intersection of Clairemont and Hendrickson and continued driving on a bike path.

Police say the vehicle hit a biker who was also going west on the path.

It says the bicyclist was take to Sacred Heart Hospital with severe injuries and died shortly after arriving at the hospital.

Lieutenant Greg Weber with the Eau Claire Police Department tells us the driver of the car was a 90-year-old man.
