Beaches popular on the Fourth as people try to cool off

(WEAU) - Many people tried to escape Wednesday's heat by hitting area lakes, rivers and beaches.

Lake Altoona beach was especially crowded with dozens of people taking advantage of the holiday to enjoy some fun in the sun. People were able to enjoy activities like boating and swimming before the evening fireworks displays.

People at the beach tell us it was the perfect day to spend some time on the water. One boy said his group was "Just going on the lake to have some fun, like kneeboarding, eat some food, hang out in the fun in the sun.”
