Black bear family roaming close to Wisconsin town

OSCEOLA, Wis. (AP) -- Wisconsin wildlife officials are trying to trap a family of black bears that has been digging through trash bins in the small town of Osceola.

The mother and her two cubs have been spotted on multiple occasions in backyards and close to homes. Reports say the mother bear weighs about 300 pounds.

Osceola police have set a trap in Purnal Tracy's yard near a forest in town. The 88-year-old Tracy says he's lost two bird feeders to the bear family and the bears hadn't visited the trap as of early Tuesday.

Police say they would like to relocate the bears to a spot in northern Wisconsin.

They had to shoot a large, problem bear at an elementary school a few years ago.
