WINONA, Minn. (AP) -- A group of people renting a recreational vehicle in Anoka County made a startling discovery after pulling off the road to investigate a foul odor.
Sheriff's officials say the individuals rented the RV from a private party in Anoka Thursday. Authorities say they eventually pulled off the freeway in Winona to find the source of the smell and discovered a body lodged in a compartment of the RV that was accessible only from the outside.
The case is being investigated by Winona police and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
WINONA, Minn. (WINONA POLICE DEPARTMENT NEWS RELEASE) -- The Winona Police Department is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of an individual whose body was discovered Thursday night. Officers shortly after 10 p.m. Thursday responded to the Shopko on 405 Cottonwood Drive in Winona after receiving a call about a deceased person.
According to the preliminary investigation, a group of individuals who had rented a motor home from a business in Anoka County discovered the body when they opened an exterior cargo bin during a stop at the Winona Shopko, The body has been taken to the Mayo Clinic for an autopsy and formal identification.
The Winona Police Department is investigating the incident with assistance from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and the Anoka County Sheriffs Office.
