Bresser scores four goals to lead Memorial boys hockey team to 5-0 win over Regis/McDonell in sectional final

EAU CLAIRE, WI (WEAU)- The Eau Claire Memorial boys hockey team defeated Regis/McDonell 5-0 to capture the WIAA sectional and earn a return trip back to Madison to defend their 2013 state title. Senior forward Jake Bresser scored four goals, giving him 56 on the season to lead the Old Abes. The Mr. Hockey finalist has now scored nine goals in his last two games. Junior defenseman Bret Schwengler opened the scoring for Memorial midway through the first period with a goal from a difficult angle that Saints goalie Armand Hess was unable to glove. Bresser scored the first of his two power play goals in the final minute of the opening period. Old Abes goalie Nick Schreiter earned the shutout as Memorial improves to 22-4-1. The Saints finish their season 22-4. Eau Claire Memorial advances to the WIAA state tournament for the fifth straight year and will play in the state quarterfinals next Thursday at 2:15 pm.
