EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU)-A building is evacuated after a woman hit the building with her car.

The Eau Claire Fire Department says the woman was driving a car into the parking lot of the Oakridge Medical Building around 9:50 Friday morning. She hit a station wagon, and then hit an exterior wall of the building, and ended up crashing into a column at the front of the building. It caused about $20,000 damage to the building.

"She was talking, talking with us," said Ben Hays, a paramedic with the Eau Claire Fire Department. "She thought maybe something mechanically happened, you know, with her car. That's still yet to be checked out...whether something happened with her braking or if possibly her foot slipped off the brake and onto the gas, causing her to strike the vehicle."

Officers evacuated the building as a precautionary measure. More than 20 people were evacuated. They stood in the parking lot or waited in their cars for about 20 minutes, and then were let back inside. The driver was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
