Burglary investigation leads to drug bust

(WEAU) - Police in La Crosse say a burglary investigation led to a drug bust.

The La Crosse Police Department says officers were patrolling near UW-La Crosse and Western Technical College following a string of break-ins. Around 7 p.m. Monday, an officer saw someone trying to break into an apartment on State Street.

The suspect was able to get away, but the officer smelled marijuana coming from the apartment. Police arrested Nathaniel Cousins, 23, and Kelly Kotes, 20, after more than 4 pounds of marijuana, candy with THC, mushrooms and other drugs were found in the apartment.
