EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- An annual donation drive aimed at helping people in need is underway.
The United Way of the Greater Chippewa Valley is teaming up with The United Way Emerging Leaders society to collect shoe boxes filled with toiletries for the homeless and others in need. They'll be delivered to Chippewa Valley shelters and agencies. These items are suggested for donations: travel-size personal items such as soap, shampoo, toothpaste and deodorant, toothbrushes, dental floss, socks, combs and brushes, first aid and other items. Some donors decorate their shoe boxes and make their contribution personal to the recipient. The goal is 1,000 shoe boxes. Last year, the equivalent of 700 shoe boxes of personal care items were donated.
The drive kicked off on Friday. There's a special collection at United Way’s Kickoff event at Leinie Lodge on Sept 10. Donations will be accepted until November 8.
