EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- A meal program for children in need is now available for every elementary school and pre-kindergarten program in the Eau Claire and Chippewa Falls school districts.
Feed My People Food Bank announced the expansion of the Weekend Kids' Meal Program on Monday. It provides each child with food for two breakfasts, two lunches, fresh fruit, and snacks. The program had provided the food for students in select elementary schools in the Eau Claire Area School District since 2007. As of September 2013, the program was offered to all of the elementary and pre-K schools in the Eau Claire Area School District and catholic schools in Eau Claire. In January, the program became available to those schools in the Chippewa Falls Chippewa Falls Area Unified School District.
Feed My People is now working with a total of 24 schools and community sites. Volunteers pack more than 1,600 bags of food per week. The program added eight new sites in Chippewa Falls and more than 200 additional students this year.
