CONSUMER ALERT: Sheriff's department warns about traveling home improvement crews

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WEAU) – A sheriff’s department wants people to watch out for traveling home improvement and paving crews that could over-charge for poor or unfinished work.

The La Crosse County Sheriff’s Department says the crews have arrived in the area. Those crews have to have solicitor’s permits from the county to sell their services door-to-door. If a salesperson comes to your home, the department suggests asking to see their permit. It recommends not paying for work in advance, and only signing a contract if you’re completely confident that you understand everything that’s in it.

The department asks that you call law enforcement right away if you have any concerns.
