MADISON, Wis. (WEAU) -- The Wisconsin State Patrol is warning people of a phone scam that may have originated in Montreal, Canada.
On Wednesday, The state patrol said in a news release that people were called on at least two occasions by a man who called himself "Sergeant Walker of the State Patrol office in Green Bay." The state patrol says the man asked for $900 to pay for crash damage caused by the person's child or grandchild. The caller then claims the money would fix damage so the other driver wouldn't press charges, and that it has to be wired immediately.
The state patrol says the phone message is a scam, and that it would never ask people for money like that. It says that anyone who receives a call like this should tell the State Patrol Northeast Region—Fond du Lac Post at (920) 929-3700. You can find more information by clicking on the link below.
