(WEAU) - Using a nail gun isn't normally part of a high schooler's day. But it's just one of the career paths students got to try out during a career tour at Chippewa Valley Technical College.

"This is really geared toward high school students, its one way that students can get into campus and really see what we have to offer here," said Coordinator Alisa Schley.

Students from Altoona, Chippewa Falls, Ladysmith and others visited the college to learn from faculty and staff about programs they are interested in.

"Career tours allow them to see three to five different programs areas and program areas they may not be familiar with," said Schley.

Students were split up into thirteen tours to review programs such as truck driving, respiratory therapy and electromechanical technology.

At CVTC, students have the option of working in the construction lab in residential construction or they might choose from other varying degrees at the college.

Students taking the tours now believe that their search for a career has expanded.

"I think it has broadened my search of what I want to do. It made it a little bit more clear. Maybe a two year school is a little better cause it's a little cheaper and then transfer to a four year school," said Daniel Halterman of Stanley-Boyd H.S.

While other students are ready to begin their life journey in their field of study at CVTC.

"For awhile the past two years, I've wanted to go to CVTC for Barber Cosmetology," said Mary Adams of Menomonie Alternative.

The day served as guidance for students to find a bright and successful future.

"We have a lot of specialty areas that as a high schooler you may not realize that you can be a Renal Dialysis Technician," said Schley.

CVTC will host its next career tour on February 28th.
