Cause of house fire in Rice Lake ruled "undetermined"

RICE LAKE, Wis. (WEAU) -- Fire investigators have determined the cause of a house fire in Rice Lake as "undetermined."

The fire happened Monday around 12:30 p.m. at 2030 23-5/8 Avenue in the Town of Rice Lake. The Rice Lake Fire Dept. says it caused severe damage to the home of Mark and Sarah Turner.

Crews say heavy fire was showing from the frontside and throughout the attic of the single-story wood frame home. Shortly after arrival, crews say a roof partially collapsed.

A joint investigation between Rice Lake Fire, Barron Co. Sheriff's Dept. and a private fire investigation firm has found that accidental factors like electrical malfunction can't be eliminated. Investigators say there is no evidence of arson.

The building and contents inside are at a total loss and crews say a preliminary damage estimate is at $200,000.

The owners of the home were not home at the time and no injuries were reported.

An estimated 15,000 gallons of water was supplied by a tanker truck to put out the fire.
