Child protection center part of Gundersen Lutheran

WINONA, Minn. (AP) -- The National Child Protection Training Center is affiliating with Gundersen Lutheran Health System.

Gundersen Lutheran CEO Jeff Thompson says the center fits well into the health system's greater mission because health care is no longer just a doctor talking to a patient -- it's much broader.

The center will be an independent partner, but Gundersen will provide fiscal, administrative and professional support.

The training center opened at Winona State University in 2003. It teaches police officers, social workers, teachers, child care providers and others how to identify signs of abuse and effectively report them.

Winona Daily News says the center will continue to be headquartered at the university.
