CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wis. (WEAU) A local health leader is leaving her position after nearly four decades.

Jean Durch has been with the Chippewa County Health Department for the last 37 years, serving as its health director for the last 22 years.

Friday was her last day on the job.

She says she will miss the daily contact with people from the community, but says it's been exciting to experience the change the department has seen in that time.

"When I started 22 years ago, the way computers were used and how they were used, the whole industry was very in the beginning stages. We would communicate with our clients through telephones and postal mail, and now we use text messages and email, and can also communicate through social media for whats going on for health issues so that has really impacted what we do," explains Durch.

Durch says she'll be joining her daughter to help raise money for "Eathan's Reason," a non- profit group working to raise awareness for Batten Disease.
