City crews plant trees in Eau Claire

(WEAU) - On what felt like the first true day of spring, which also happens to be Arbor Day, crews were busy planting trees in Eau Claire.

The trees are being planted in 38 locations around Eau Claire. In collaboration with the DNR, the city's forestry division is planting newly developed types of maple and alder.

The city forester says the new hybrids will help diversify the trees in the city that are tolerant of urban conditions.

The trees will be monitored for 6 years and if they're successful, Chwala says they will be mass produced in the nursery industry.
