City of Eau Claire crews respond to two water main breaks in freezing temps

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- Crews have responded to a pair of water main breaks in Eau Claire on Monday.

The first was found around 9 a.m. Monday on Altoona Avenue in Eau Claire. The Eau Claire Public Works Department says the cold temperatures let frost seep into the ground. The ground ends up shifting, which breaks the water line. The department says water leaked and came up to the surface. Crews had the problem fixed by 12:30 p.m. Fifteen customers lost power for between a half-hour and an hour. There's no word on how much water was lost.

The second one happened at Rudolph Road and Mitscher Avenue before 2:30 p.m Monday. Water could be seen in a front yard running down a sidewalk and eventually into a storm drain. Crews closed off a stretch of the north lane of Rudolph between Mitscher and Lehman Street while they worked on the problem.
