City of La Crosse hoping for more money for snow removal from sidewalks

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WEAU) -- The winter has been hard on an area city’s budget for snow removal from sidewalks.

The city of La Crosse has $35,000 to cover snow removal from sidewalks.

However, sidewalk coordinator Doug Kerns said the city has used around $38,000.

Kerns said he went to the public works board, who has recommended the city council re-appropriate an additional $25,000.

The council is expected to vote on the matter next week.

Meantime, Kerns is asking people to shovel their sidewalks.

“It’s important for everyone to do their part, and if everyone pitches in just a little bit, it makes it easier for everyone,” said Kerns.

Residents are encouraged to pick up a free sand salt mixture.

It’s available on Isle La Plume and all La Crosse fire stations, except Fire Station 1.

You’ll also need to bring your own container with you.
