CONSUMER ALERT: Complaints about door-to-door seal coating offers prompt warning from sheriff's department

WHITEHALL, Wis. (WEAU) -- A law enforcement agency is warning people about a possible scam.

The Trempealeau County Sheriff's Department says blacktopping or seal coating companies have been going door-to-door in the county, offering to seal coat driveways at a discounted rate. The people claim to have extra material from other jobs that they want to get rid of. Complaints that have come into the department include poor quality, inflated pricing, and no bills of sale, contracts, or warranties.

Sheriff Richard Anderson says that reputable companies will fill out a work order and a written contract or agreement on the job.
