County closes Coon Fork beaches, Big Falls wading area due to high bacteria levels

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (EAU CLAIRE COUNTY PARKS & FOREST DEPARTMENT NEWS RELEASE) -- The Eau Claire County Parks & Forest Department announces that water testing results by the City County Health Department indicate Coon Fork Lake County Park campground and dayside beaches and Big Falls wading area have unsafe levels and are closed effective immediately. Lake Altoona beach is currently within acceptable standards for swimming and therefore open. The City-County Health Department policy is to close all areas whenever water samples indicate high levels of bacteria above safe standards. The Health Department will retest the areas today or Thursday and the Parks & Forest Department will inform the public when bacteria levels are within acceptable health standards. Any questions regarding this matter can be directed to the City-County Health Department at 715-839-4718.
