County highway worker hurt after sideswiped by vehicle

(WEAU) -- A Vernon County Highway worker was hurt after being sideswiped by a vehicle.

It happened around 7 a.m. in the Village of Genoa on Hwy 56, east of Main Street.

Vernon County Sheriff John Spears says 51-year-old Gary Becker of La Farge had gotten out of his maintenance vehicle to put up temporary road construction signs.

The sheriff says Becker was standing near the back of his vehicle when he was sideswiped by an eastbound vehicle driven by a 17-year-old.

Backer complained of back and lower leg injuries, but he did not want any medical attention as of Monday night.

Sheriff Spears reminds motorists of the dangers of operating in construction zones.

The accident remains under investigation by the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office.
