Crash injures driver and leaves highway littered with logs

(WEAU) - A logging truck crashed, hurting the driver and shut down a highway for hours in Buffalo County. It happened near Fountain City just after 1 p.m. Friday on Highway 35 near County Highway YY.

Deputies say the driver of the semi thought he saw something fall from his truck and as he looked out his side mirror, he missed a curve, hit the guard rail, spun around the opposite way and flipped, spilling his logs and hurting him.

Crews sent him to the hospital to be treated for head injuries, he was later released. The driver is Edward Appel, 57, from Taylor.

The crash started a fire in his engine and another semi driver stopped to help put out the fire. The crash shut down Highway 35 for more than six hours and is under investigation.
