NEW INFORMATION: Damage from equipment fire estimated at $40,000

TOWN OF MILLSTON, Wis. (WEAU)-- UPDATE: Black River Falls Fire Department Chief, Steve Schreiber, says the power unit for the tree processor involved in the fire was a John Deere and the cutting head was a Fab Tech 120. The cutting head was not damaged in the fire.

The Chief says after talking with the owner Thursday morning, the estimated damage is thought to be about $40,000. The equipment was insured.

The owner is also from Tomah, WI and not Warrens as first reported.


TOWN OF MILLSTON, Wis. (WEAU)--According to the Black River Falls Fire Department a tree cutter erupted in flames late Wednesday afternoon while on a logging operation in the Township of Millston.

It's owned by Todd's Shrub and Tree Service of Warrens, WI.

The operator called the fire department to report the engine was smoking. When crews arrived on scene, the equipment was fully engulfed and it took them 30 minutes to put the fire out.

No one was injured, and the machine was out of the woods and not near any other structures.

The extent of the damage is not known at this time.
