NEW INFORMATION: Bonfire ignites brush fire in Eau Claire

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- A backyard fire pit fire is to blame for a brush fire that broke out in Eau Claire Wednesday afternoon.

It happened near Colonial Court, which is off of Princeton Avenue. Eau Claire Fire and Rescue responded. The fire broke out near the woods and came from a fire pit fire in a yard. At the time, a no burning restriction was in effect for the city.

It started on Colonial Court and blew up the hill towards Heritage Drive. It stopped before any homes were hit.

Eau Claire Fire says the size of the area that burned was 500 square feet.
