EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- Ice skating at several parks in the City of Eau Claire is expected to start this month.
Crews could be seen flooding the skating area at Boyd Park on Main Street in Eau Claire Tuesday afternoon. The Eau Claire Parks and Recreation Department says that ice skating is scheduled to start December 26, barring a significant warm-up. Skating could be available as soon as the end of this week, but the department doesn't want to promise that because of the possibility of changing weather conditions.
To flood the rinks, the city hooks up a two-inch hose to a fire hydrant. Todd Chwala with the city says crews typically can flood all six rinks at the city's parks in a day. He says the work at Boyd Park is typically more involved than the others because crews create a "lazy river" look there.
