MENOMONIE, Wis. (WEAU) -- Crews rescued a man who threatened to take his own life from the Red Cedar River in Menomonie.

Investigators responded to a call of a man threatening to jump into the river from the Cedar Falls Bridge just before 3 p.m. Wednesday. They say they found the man near the Cedar Falls Boat Landing. When the deputies wen up to him, he pointed a rifle at his head and began making his way into the river. He dropped the rifle and started to swim across the river. The man ended up turning around because of the cold temperatures and strong current. When he got a few feet from shore, investigators say he couldn't move anymore. That's when crews pulled him from the river.

He was taken to an Eau Claire hospital for hypothermia and other treatment. He is expected to make a full recovery. His name was not released.
