Crews investigating garage fire as criminal act

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU)-- UPDATE: Eau Claire Police say they are interviewing two people in connection to the fires at REACH, Inc. and at 1827 Whipple Street.

Officers say they are investigating both fires as criminal acts. They says the man and woman were arrested on unrelated meth charges.

Police say the man was spotted near the garage fire on Whipple Street and the woman was questioned after her name came up during interviews. Police have been interviewing several other people who live or work near REACH.

We'll have the latest on the investigation on WEAU 13 News and on

Crews responded to a garage fire Friday morning on Whipple Street.

Eau Claire Fire and Rescue says it happened around 6:40 a.m. When crews got there, they found an unattached garage burning. People in nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution.

No one was hurt and there's no damage estimate.

Eau Claire Police say the fire is suspicious because it happened near the same time and location of the fire at REACH in Eau Claire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
