EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) – When you head to the polls, you'll be voting for more than just your favorite candidates.

The Eau Claire County Board voted in June to add an advisory referendum calling for a constitutional amendment stating that only human beings, not corporations, unions or PACs are entitled to constitutional rights.

The resolution is a response to the controversial Citizens United ruling the U.S. Supreme Court made in 2010.

Rick Jurmain with Chippewa Valley Move to Amend says resolutions like this have been voted on around the country, in hopes of convincing the government to change the law.

"You have to start somewhere and in this case we start at the grass roots level and work our way up,” says Jurmain.

The question is an advisory referendum, which means the law will not actually change if people vote against the law.
