NEW INFORMATION: Grease fire started restaurant blaze

By  |

(WEAU) - Flames shot out of a buffet tonight as people were sitting down for dinner at a Western Wisconsin restaurant.

La Crosse Fire Chief Gregg Cleveland says they were called around 4:20 p.m. Wednesday about a fire at the Super Buffet on Copeland Avenue. Cleveland says fire crews saw heavy fire and smoke coming from the roof area when they arrived.

He says no one was hurt and in a press release, the fire department says a grease fire on a stove top started the blaze.

There's also no damage estimate, but Cleveland says there's heavy damage to the roof.

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WEAU) - Crews expect to remain at the scene of a restaurant fire in La Crosse well into the night Wednesday.

It happened at Super Buffet on Copeland Avenue Wednesday afternoon.
