EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- A place that helps victims held a ceremony Tuesday to stand up against domestic violence.
The Bolton Refuge House held a Day of Unity in Eau Claire.
The event ran until 7 pm on Tuesday and featured a ceremony to honor those who lost their lives in a domestic violence situation.
It also includes a memorial for the victims as well as dedications for members of the community who are working to end the violence.
Free food, games, and a silent auction are all part of the event , with all proceeds going to the Bolton Refuge House.
Pat Stein, the Executive Director, says that domestic violence is a real problem.
She says, "The real reality is events like these need to happen, and I know that we have one month tagged to do this, but the real reality is domestic violence is happening 365 days a year and 24 hours in a day."
She says the 14 room Bolton Refuge House in Eau Claire has been full since November, and just over the weekend, they had to turn away three people because there was no space.
