TOMAH, Wis. (WEAU) -- An area VA facility has the shortest wait time for patients among Wisconsin’s three major medical centers.
The average wait time for a new patient seeking primary care at the Tomah VA Medical Center was 17 days.
That’s according to an audit the Department of Veterans Affairs released Monday.
The VA’s target for wait times is 14 days.
The Madison VA Medical Center had the longest average wait time of nearly 51 days.
The average wait time at the facility in Milwaukee was nearly 24 days.
The Tomah VA’s chief of staff said he’s happy with his facility’s wait times.
“I feel that our results show that we have made good attempts to meet the needs of the veterans that Tomah serves,” said Dr. David Houlihan.
The audit also said 98% percent of appointments at the Tomah VA and the Madison VA were scheduled in 30 days or less.
Ninety-six percent of appointments were scheduled in 30 days or less at the Milwaukee VA.
