TOWN OF ARCADIA, Wis. (WEAU) -- Three people died and two others were hurt in the crash.
The Trempealeau County Sheriff's Department says it was called to this stretch of Wisconsin Highway 95 in the Town of Arcadia just after 7:30 Monday morning.
The crash happened east of Sorlie Lane between Blair and Arcadia.
Trempealeau County Sheriff Richard Anderson said the SUV was heading east and a minivan was going west.
They hit head on in the westbound lane.
The sheriff's department said the minivan caught fire.
Anderson said the driver of the SUV died at the hospital.
“It has been confirmed that the driver of the lone vehicle the eastbound vehicle was deceased,” said Anderson.
He also said the driver of the minivan and a passenger died at the scene.
Two other passengers in the minivan were injured.
“One was taken by helicopter to a La Crosse hospital and the other was taken by ambulance to Whitehall hospital,” said Anderson.
No names have been released, and the crash is still under investigation.
“Preliminary report is that one of the persons on the scene said it was raining quite heavily at the time,” said Anderson.
Crews kept a stretch of 95 in both directions between Blair and Arcadia closed for more than five hours.
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (TREMPEALEAU COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE NEWS RELEASE) --At approximately 7:38am Deputies from Trempealeau County Sheriff's Office, with assistance from Arcadia Police Dept, responded to a motor vehicle crash, involving 2 vehicles, one of which was reported to be on fire. Location of crash was reported to be on State Highway 95 east of Sorlie Ln in the Town of Arcadia, near the address of W20772 State Hwy 95.
The initial officer arriving on scene observed severe damage to both vehicles with one of the vehicles fully engulfed in flames. 2 victims were located outside of the vehicles.
Based on preliminary information/investigation, a mini-van was traveling west on Hwy 95 when it collided with an eastbound SUV, The van and SUV struck "head-on" in the westbound lane of traffic (based on evidence obtained from crash scene). After the initial contact, the van came to rest a short distance from the initial point of contact and then caught fire. There were four occupants in the van, two of which appeared to have been ejected, The remaining two occupants of the van (driver & 1 passenger) were pronounced dead at the scene by Trempealeau County Coroner Bonnie Kindschy.
The driver of the SUV was trapped in the vehicle and was extricated from that vehicle prior to being transported to Tri-County Hospital in Whitehall, WI. The driver of the SUV was pronounced deceased at Tri-County Hospital a short time later.
The crash is currently still under investigation. Names have not been released, pending notifications. Roadway conditions were wet and that location had been receiving rainfall just prior to the time of crash. It is unknown at this time if weather or road conditions contributed.

TOWN OF ARCADIA, Wis. (WEAU) -- A sheriff has confirmed that three people died in a crash between a minivan and a sport utility vehicle Monday morning.
The crash happened on State Highway 95 at Sorlie Road around 7:40 a.m. Trempealeau County Sheriff Richard Anderson said the minivan was headed west on highway 95, and the SUV was going east. Anderson said the crash was "slightly head-on." The drivers of both vehicles and a passenger in the minivan died. Two other passengers in the minivan were taken to the hospital. There was no immediate word on the severity of their injuries. Names and ages of the victims were not released.
A stretch of highway 95 remained closed in both directions between Blair and Arcadia at 12:15 p.m. Monday.
WHITEHALL, Wis. (WEAU) -- A crash in Trempealeau County has resulted in "multiple fatalities."
The Wisconsin State Patrol says it happened around 7:40 a.m. on State Highway 95 and Sorlie Ln. That's between Blair and Arcadia. A deputy from the Trempealeau County Sheriff's Office says he is not sure how many victims are involved, but that there "may be more before they're done." There was also no immediate word on their names, ages, or hometowns. He said at least one vehicle was reportedly engulfed in flames. He was not sure about what types of vehicles were involved, but the state patrol reports that two vehicles were involved.
Right now, highway 95 is closed in both directions between Blair and Arcadia. Crews are re-routing traffic on County Road N and County Road D. There's no word on when that stretch of highway may open. The state patrol was sending a reconstruction team to the scene at last report.
