Deputies: Shooting likely an accident

A 14-year-old received a gunshot wound to his abdomen from a handgun being handled by a 64-year-old relative.

FRIENDSHIP, Wis. (ADAMS COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT NEWS RELEASE) - The Adam's County Sheriff s Office is investigating a gunshot wound to a 14 year old boy
which occurred July 31, 2013 at approximately 6:00 pm.
The 14year old boy, from Racine, WI, was reportedly target shooting with relatives near 22nd Avenue just South of Cumberland Avenue while on vacation in the Town of Strongs Prairie.

The 14-year-old received a gunshot wound to his abdomen from a handgun being handled by a 64 year old relative. The victim was transported by air ambulance to St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield, WI, where he is reported 10 be in stable condition. Initial reports and investigation by Law Enforcement Personnel on the scene indicate the shooting was most likely accidental.

The Adams County Sheriff's Office was assisted at the scene by Curtis Ambulance and Wardens from the Department of Natural Resources. This investigation is ongoing. The Sheriff s Office is not releasing any other information at this time, and is confident there is not any on-going threat to the community from this incident.
