Deputies warn of computer scam

Press Release - Scam Alert
The Barron County Sheriff’s Department has been alerted that some Barron County residents are receiving calls from people claiming to work for Microsoft Windows who want remote access to their computer.

As with all scams, please don’t give out any information unless you know who you are talking to. Banks and other businesses will never call you up to confirm your account numbers; you can never win something unless you enter to win and never allow anyone to have remote access or passwords to enter your computer.

Please report any scams to the Barron County Sheriff’s Department at 537-3106. Please realize that we cannot take any action unless a crime has been committed and you have been deprived of money/property.

Please take precautions before this happens by hanging up on them and/or telling them you are alerting local law enforcement.
