PITTSVILLE, Wis. (AP) -- A Wood County sheriff's deputy is recovering from injuries suffered when he was attacked by two dogs while trying to arrest a suspected drunken driver.
The sheriff's department says the deputy attempted to stop a driver in Pittsville Thursday about 5 p.m., but the woman ran into her house.
The deputy says the driver finally came out of the house and appeared intoxicated. Officials say she refused a sobriety test and tried to go back inside the house. Authorities say when the deputy tried to arrest the woman, two pit bulls attacked him. The deputy shot both dogs. The woman was later arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, 4th offense. The deputy was treated for bite wounds at a local hospital.
