NEWS RELEASE:

Dunn County Solid Waste is pleased to announce that County residents no longer need to sort recyclable glass by color. Under a new recycling agreement, glass from Dunn County will now be recycled by Strategic Materials, Inc. (SMI), the largest glass recycler in North America. SMI’s advanced, state-of-the-art facility is capable of sorting mixed colors of glass, making recycling easier for local residents. The SMI plant is located in St. Paul, MN saving Dunn County on transportation costs as well.

Glass recycling bins at Area Collection Stations and the Public Drop-Off Area will still be divided. However, there is no need to separate bottles and jars by color. After SMI separates and processes Dunn County’s glass at their plant, they manufacture the material into glass cullet. The cullet from the clear and brown glass is used for the glass container industries and green glass cullet is used for making fiberglass insulation products. In an industry driven business, the turnaround time for glass recycled in our bins can be as quick as 30 days. Glass is 100% recyclable and can be recycled endlessly without any loss in purity or quality. For more information contact Dunn County Solid Waste at 715-232-4017 or visit us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/dunncountyrecycling.
