EC Firefighters run in honor of coworker and friend

EAU CLAIRE, Wis-- A group of firefighters dressed in full gear crossed the finish line at the Eau Claire Marathon Sunday in tribute to a fellow crew member.

The Eau Claire Fire Department says each step in the 26-point-2 mile course was in memory of engineer and paramedic Denise Waterman. She lost her battle to colon cancer this week after spending 16 years with the department.

Eight crew members ran the relay and four ran the full marathon

Denise's husband waited at the finish line for the group to cross. But the crew wanted him to be a part of the day and invited him to cross the line with them.

The department is holding a memorial service for Waterman at the Plaza hotel on May 6th at 4pm.
