DEVELOPING: Two charged in shooting outside Eau Claire bar

(WEAU) - Two people are facing charges following the shooting outside an Eau Claire bar.

Online records show Rodney Craig, 36, is charged with attempted 1st degree intentional homicide as a party to a crime as well as two other charges. Shirley Heath, 32, faces a felony bail jumping charge.

The shooting happened at the Idlewild Bar around 1:30 a.m. Saturday.

According to the criminal complaint, witnesses say a fight broke out inside the bar and ended up out into the parking lot. A witness told police Craig grabbed a gun from a car and fired multiple shots in the direction of the bar. The complaint says a detective found bullet fragments in the wall of the bar.

Police say nobody was reported hurt.

The complaint says Craig denies shooting a gun and says the gun fire was directed at him.

Two days later, police pulled over a vehicle matching the description of the car involved in the shooting. Craig and Heath were in the vehicle. Police also found a loaded firearm in the trunk.

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- "We hear occasional noise from people out having a good time but no trouble or anything like that," said Chris Green who lives near the Idlewild Bar in Eau Claire.

He says his Eau Claire neighborhood is usually quiet. But Saturday night, for a few moments, that calm was interrupted by several gunshots.

Chris, who never woke up to the noises, was surprised to hear about it the next day.

"You know definitely surprised, my kids don't live here but if they were here something like that would concern me," Green said.

Police say the fight started in the bar and eventually carried out to the parking lot.

"Our investigation shows these shots were fired at the people directly involved in the fight," said Lt. Matt Rokus with the Eau Claire Police Department.

Rokus says the people who got into the fight did not know each other. One of the bullets also went through an apartment window above the bar; however the person living there and those involved in the fight were not injured.

"This appears to be an isolated incident," Rokus added.

Eau Claire Police caught them during a traffic stop on Brackett Avenue yesterday. Rokus says both Rodney Craig and Shirley Heath cooperated with police.

"Doug's son called and said he saw our house on TV," said Florence Gullickson.

She and Douglas Harsh live within sight of the bar. They too were surprised to hear about the incident, but despite what happened Saturday, they are not worried about where they live.

"It's always been fairly good," Harsh added.

We did reach out to the person who lives in the apartment where the bullet went through. He did not want to talk on camera but says the bullet went through the bottom part of his window while he was sleeping.

We tried reaching out to Idlewild Bar for comment but we did not hear back.

A release from the Eau Claire Police Department does not indicate when or where Craig and Heath were arrested, but the department has told us that its response to the area of Brackett Avenue and Rudolph Road on Monday afternoon is linked to its investigation of the shooting at Idlewild Bar.
