Eau Claire Memorial Wins State Hockey Championship

Eau Claire Memorial defeated Verona 6-1 Saturday to win its second State championship.

In the first period, Verona scored first at 14:35 with a goal by Zach Jones, but the score was quickly followed by a shot in the net by Eau Claire's Brady Bollinger at 15:00 to tie the game at 1-1.

With the score tied at 1-1 to start the second period, Dylan Ross fired one in the net at 1:24 for Eau Claire, and the second Eau Claire goal of the period was a Jacob Bresser short-handed score at 14:59.

Bresser continued his scoring prowess with a power-play goal in the 10:15 of third period. Charley Grasskamp gave Eau Claire their fifth goal at 7:49, and Austin Phippen notched his name in the scoring books with a goal at 10:36 to complete the scoring.

Alex Geving had 26 saves for Eau Claire and saves for Alex Jones collected 24 stops for Verona.
