Eau Claire City Council is discussing an initiative to buy iPads. The idea came from a study done in 2009 that showed how much money and resources cities can save for using tablet technology and digital archiving. The estimated cost for iPads is estimated at about $7,000.

City Manager Russ Van Gompel says right now the city has to print around 15 council agendas. He says the initiative would allow the city to only print printing just two agendas. Van Gompel says that would save the city 36-hundred dollars a year in paper costs and ink. He expects the cost of the iPads will be paid back savings in a year and half.
