EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) Eau Claire Transit will become the first in the U.S. to road test a new system that will help riders in wheelchairs.

Q-Straint, a company that secures wheelchairs, showed off a new system that allows bus riders in wheelchairs to fasten themselves in quickly, and independently.

Wednesday riders had a chance to learn about it and test it out.

The new system which is designed exclusively for city buses allows riders to secure themselves in less than 25 seconds without the help of a bus driver.

"This is kind of a revolutionary system that quite frankly will help gain some independence for passengers that are in mobility devices," says Mike Branco, Eau Claire Transit Manager.

Eau Claire Transit says it could have the system in one of its buses in a couple of months, and if it works well, it could be installed into more buses.
