EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (EAU CLAIRE POLICE DEPARTMENT NEWS RELEASE) -- On December 19, 2013, the Eau Claire Police Department was notified by the Wisconsin Department of Corrections that Level 3 Sex Offender Scott P. Olson had absconded from probation supervision by cutting off his court ordered GPS monitoring bracelet. Olson has a lengthy criminal history that includes multiple convictions for sexual assault.

On Saturday, January 11, 2014, an Eau Claire Police Department patrol officer located a vehicle that had been identified as belonging to Olson. The officer observed Olson driving the vehicle in the area of Ferry and Menomonie Streets and attempted to conduct a traffic stop on it when Olson intentionally attempted to elude the officer. Due to Olson’s current status and lengthy criminal history the officer continued to pursue Olson in effort to take him into custody. Olson led the pursuit to Garfield Avenue and Rust Street where he crashed his vehicle into a tree. Olson then fled on foot.

Multiple officers assisted in searching for Olson after he was tracked to the area of Brackett Avenue and Rudolph Road. Further investigation revealed that Olson had left that area and was transported by another individual back to the area of Ferry and Menomonie Streets. Officers surveilled that location and ultimately arrested Olson without further incident.
